FAIRFIELD CIVIC LEAGUE MINUTES

January 14, 2008 7:00PM-

Meeting started with Pledge of Allegiance. There were about 30 attendees. While waiting for the guest speaker, Doug talked about the progress on Witchduck Road and the new ball field on Reon Drive. Elections for the Civic league at coming up and this is the time to speak up if you would like to serve. Otherwise, the board may stay the same.

Luminaries were discussed. Some of the civic leagues are trying to get a 501C organization approved, which is a non-profit program. Several people discussed the Fairfield shopping center, before the guest arrived. Several recommendations were given to Valerie concerning the vacant bread store shop.

Contact Ray if you would like to volunteer for the Neighborhood watch. The treasurer noted the balance on the Civic league checkbook. A check will be written tonight to the Garden club to pay for the new Fairfield sign on Locke lane.

The guest speaker, Ms Valerie Gilbert arrived. She is the property manager for the Fairfield Shopping Center, which is owned by Wheeler Interests. She stated that the Taylor Do-it Center will open around 15-30 March 08. There was a lot of discussion about the shopping center between attendees and Valerie. Valerie stated that the owners of the shopping center were going to make some changes and updates, but they had to make sure they were up to city codes. The following changes will be made within the next 2-3 months. Speed bumps will be added and new signs to replace the yellow and green signs. Bike racks will be replaced due to them being stolen An overhang will be added next to the vacant bread shop Pedestrians’ cross walks for safety. Security cameras will be installed due to vandalism at the shopping center. Some of the security guards are undercover. Also, there has been some concern about skateboarding at the shopping center. This is illegal and the security officers will prosecute. Stop signs will be replaced with new ones. Additional signs will be added to the shopping center.

The Chief of the 4th precinct was going to speak in February, but this has been postponed until March. If you have someone that you would like as a guest speaker, let Doug know. Several suggestions were Robert Dean who is active in trying to lower VB taxes. In additional, Barbara Ciara name was brought up. Also, since the primary will be in February, a suggestion was to get the Presidential candidate managers from our local area. Meeting adjourned before 8:00PM.
